Old Cobbler's Cottage - Accessibility Guide

Location & Communications:

  • The cottage is located in the small rural village of North Dalton within 2 minutes walk of the local pub.
  • It has free parking for one car at the entrance to the cottage garden. Parking for 2 cars is available subject to notifying the owner in advance.
  • A local bus service runs through the village, serving – York, Bridlington, Pocklington and Driffield, with bus and rail links to Beverley and Scarborough.
  • The nearest medium sized towns are Driffield and Pocklington – between 6 – 8 miles away.
  • The cottage has a BT telephone call box. Mobile phone reception is limited for some service providers. O2 has the best coverage.
  • Wifi is available – code and password can be found in the Cottage Information Folder


Description:

  • There is a paved footpath from the car parking area. It is down a very slight slope near to the cottage. The width is between 44 cm / 17 ins to 67 cm / 26 ins.

  • The entrance doorway to the cottage is 76 cm / 30 ins wide and has a slight step of 10cm / 4 ins into the cottage.
  • The entrance way leads into a small “conservatory” area. There is then another doorway of 76cm / 30 ins width, with a very slight step of 12 cm / 5 ins. The shower room and toilet is on the ground floor. Step into shower is 25 cm / 10 ins.

  • The downstairs has a kitchen / lounge and dining areas all with open access. All on one level. The kitchen is tiled. The living room and dining room are carpeted.
  • There is a boxed in staircase to the upstairs two bedrooms. There is a handrail leading up the stairs which are of a moderate steepness, and they bend around a corner at the bottom of the flight. The stairs are carpeted. Due to the stairs the cottage is not suitable for those confined to wheelchairs or with difficulties with stairs.

  • Both bedrooms are on the same level as the landing, and both are carpeted.
  • The kitchen has all units and equipment easily accessible.
  • The garden has a paved patio area with a table for sitting out in at ground level. There are no steps to access the patio. There is no lawn. There is a rough area at the far end of the garden suitable for dogs
  • There are smoke detectors on both floors.
